Guch's and high altitude mountains

Postby Macca » Thu May 05, 2011 6:39 pm

Hi everyone

Some of you know I'm a bit of a climber and mountaineer. I'm off to the Alps in August to attempt a few routes, including Mont Blanc weather permitting.

Just wondering if anyone knows of other GUCH's/heart patients who have summited Mont Blanc/high altitude mountains? (Except Ranulph Fiennes - I know he has :-))

I'm particularly interested in anyone who has had a valve, or double valve transplant like me.

I did several over the summer - got to about 3200 - i.e. about 680mb of pressure, much less than in commercial aircraft.

Everything worked fine, took a pulse oximeter just for fun and my pulse increased to about 70 at rest from my usual 60 and my sats dropped to 94 from my usual 99....

So yea, all good.
