Pulmonary Valve Replacement

Postby Tony_S » Fri Oct 24, 2014 8:08 pm

Hello,
Our 12 year old daughter will be have an open heart pulmonary valve replacement. Have any of you/ your children had the same or similar operation? What have your experiences been? What type of valve did your child have? We would be interested to know!
Thank you!

Hello Tony,
39 years ago I was the daughter. I had a "Piggy Pulmonary Valve" to replace my own badly leaky valve. Now my piggy valve is beginning to fail, but hey, it gave me 39 years extra so far !
I am talking 1975! The surgery now is so much more reliable. A lot has been learned since my op.
Best wishes to your daughter and give her a big hug from 66 year old Lydia.

Hi Tony,

I had my PVR six weeks ago. I think it's a tissue valve inside a conduit made from bovine heart tissue. I'm doing ok, the surgery went well and my recovery seems to be going to plan, not as fast as i would have liked though!

The stress of waiting for the surgery date is honestly the worst part of it.

Hi Lydia and Scott,
Just realised I don't know hi to Pm someone  but I just wanted to say thank you for your reassuring message. We don't know exactly when she is having the op yet so it is a bit of a waiting game but all your information has been really helpful.
Thanks again,

Tony,
If you want to send a private message to anyone, just left click the little "PM" icon in the panel to the extreme right of their ordinary post. Nobody is going to get flustered if you make a mistake when trying to send a private message.
Take good care of yourselves, love from Lydia.
