Medical Exemption Certificate

Postby Greg4271 » Thu Apr 30, 2015 4:24 pm

Does anyone on here have a Medical Exemption Certificate allowing you to get free perscriptions? I had one and it has now been turned down by my GP refusing to sign the form, stating I am too health, yet my condition hasn't changed and I still reply on 3 different types of medication to be daily. I realise you can get prepaid perscription cards but my drugs would total £24+ per month. If you have Diabetes, Epilepsy or an over active Thyroid you free medication but not a congenical heart defect, doesn't seem fair to me. Responses welcomed.

Greg, life's not fair! In an ideal world nobody would pay for their medicine, but we've ended up with a weird system where some pay and others don't. Realistically I can't see any government letting more people have free medicines.

A prepaid prescription card works out at less than £9.00 a month which isn't a lot compared to travel costs that some people have to get to their hospital check ups.

I do have a medical exemption card but only by the fact that I also have Epilepsy, which was likely to be caused by my congenital heart disease. This does cover all my medicines, but on another point I now have to pay at least £42 pounds in fares every time I visit the hospital, which is often at least once a month, so what I save on prescriptions I pay out on fares!
