New Congenital Heart Disease Review

Postby arty » Sun Apr 13, 2014 2:15 pm

Hello, sorry its been so long since I last posted.
I have been looking at the papers for the New Congenital Heart Disease Review http://www.england.nhs.uk/ourwork/qual-clin-lead/chd/ Most of the research and information that I have been able to see concentrates on Childrens services. I am wondering what members of this group think of the services we older adults get at our Specialist Hospital Departments.
As we get older, there can be more complications for us and additional medical conditions that may affect our heart/ be affected or caused by our heart; also medicine side effects and interactions can become more complicated because of this.
It may not be too late to contribute something to the review about services for older adults.
I do have a vested interest, because I am in my 60's.
Look forward to your thoughts.

Hi Arty , I totally agree with you, sometimes I feel they are not too worried about us because maybe they think we lived longer than expected. Most support and info is for younger Congenital heart patients. :(

The draft review has now been published, you can view a video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaXnAFvHy_4 The closing date for the consultation is 8th December 2014. So this is a great chance to have your say and make sure that they are told what our needs are as older GUCH's. Please don't put it off, it is such a good opportunity.

Thanks for that Arty, I watched the video, read some of the papers and filled out the survey. There are some good recommendations and it would be great if we get the service proposed, but in some aspects I fear that it is merely wishful thinking.....................

here is an URGENT reminder to take action before 5th June 2017. Our one chance to respond to the NHS England Congenital Heart Review proposals before a decision is made. See previous messages and take a look at https://www.engage.england.nhs.uk/consultation/chd/ (The survey for you to complete is at the bottom of this page) to see the plans for the future of our service. There are many radical proposals throughout the country and I am especially concerned about what is going on in Manchester.
